Hilton's Hallmark Lawsuit Is
Approved
A
California court has given socialite Paris Hilton the opportunity to pursue
a lawsuit against greeting cards manufacturer Hallmark over allegations the
company used her image without permission. The hotel heiress is suing bosses
at the firm, claiming they used her picture and her catchphrase, 'That's
Hot!', on a card which was captioned 'Paris's First Day as a Waitress.' She
alleges the card was based on a scene from her hit reality TV show The
Simple Life.
At a hearing in California on Monday, three judges at the 9th Circuit Court
of Appeals gave the star the Ok to pursue her case against the company,
rejecting Hallmark executives' claims the cartoon on the card was of a
generic woman and not Hilton.
Judge Diarmuid O'Scannlain told the hearing, "The basic setting is the same:
we see Paris Hilton, born to privilege, working as a waitress. (Hilton) has
at least some probability of prevailing on the merits before a truer of
fact."
The star is seeking damages and a permanent injunction, barring Hallmark
from further exploitation of her name and likeness.
Zellweger Uninjured In Car Crash
Renee
Zellweger has walked away from a car crash in Beverly Hills unscathed. The
Bridget Jones's Diary star was involved in a collision with another vehicle,
which left one of the actress' headlights smashed and the other car without
a license plate. But an insider insists Zellweger, 40, was not to blame for
the Monday morning crash.
The source tells website TMZ.com, "This is not her fault. Someone made a
U-turn into her."
No injuries were reported.
Banks Shoots Down Engagement Reports
Supermodel-turned-tv
presenter Tyra Banks has dismissed rumors she is engaged to her businessman
boyfriend after she was snapped wearing a diamond sparkler on her ring
finger. The America's Next Top Model host prompted speculation she was set
to walk down the aisle with John Utendahl when she was seen wearing the
jewel after a dinner date in Los Angeles on Saturday with her boyfriend of
two years.
But Banks' representatives have shot down talk of a wedding, insisting the
ring is a sentimental piece of jewellery from her school days.
Her spokesperson tells GossipCop.com, "Tyra is not engaged - it's her high
school ring and she wears it almost every day."
Kardashian Lands Deal With 50 Cent's Fragrance Company
Reality
TV star Kim Kardashian has an unlikely coach preparing her for the launch of
her first perfume - she's signed a deal with 50 Cent's fragrance company.
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star will compete with with an endless
line of celebrities from Britney Spears to Pamela Anderson when her new
scent hits shelves next spring.
However, Kardashian insists her as yet unnamed fragrance will be unlike
other A-list endorsements, after inking a deal with the rapper's company,
Lighthouse Beauty - which will also market and distribute a line of 50
Cent-inspired colognes later this year.
She tells Women's Wear Daily, “What’s so different about their approach is
that they have worked so closely with me on all aspects of my fragrance, the
bottle, the juice…so I can develop a product that truly represents me and
speaks to my fans….the fragrance really captures who I am.”

Gossip Girl Fans Upset New Yorkers
Leighton
Meester, Penn Badgley and Hilary Duff are causing more controversy on the
set of hit U.S. TV drama Gossip Girl - New York residents have complained
their neighborhood has been taken over by crazed fans. Duff is currently
filming episodes as a guest star on the series, in which she plays a famous
actress who enrolls at university with Vanessa, played by Jessica Szohr.
The singer, Badgley and Meester filmed a dinner party scene at the esteemed
National Arts Club on Tuesday in Manhattan's elite Gramercy Park, attracting
hordes of screaming teen fans - and complaints from local residents.
A source tells the New York Daily News, "Residents were complaining that
they couldn't even walk on the sidewalks because cables were lying all over
the place. Plus, there were trailers and crazed fans everywhere."
Duff sparked controversy on the set this week (begs24Aug09) amid rumors she
had infuriated the show's cast after refusing to leave her trailer, causing
a massive delay in shooting. Her spokesperson denied he claims, which she
said were "absolutely not true".

Actress
Alicia Silverstone has become the latest celebrity to launch a cosmetics
line after creating an eco-friendly make-up range. The Clueless star will
launch her new products in America later this year. She says, "They're these
beautiful make-up bags and brushes... completely cruelty free and made from
recycled materials, bamboo and hemp."
Hirsch Heaps Praise On 'So Perfect'
Stewart
Kristen
Stewart has actor Emile Hirsch to thank for her role in vampire hit Twilight
- he convinced director Catherine Hardwicke the actress could tackle any
role. Hirsch was wowed by the 19 year old's talent after working with her in
Sean Penn's 2007 adventure movie Into The Wild, and couldn't help but
recommend her to his Lords of Dogtown collaborator Hardwicke while she made
plans to bring Twilight to the big screen.
Hirsch tells OKMagazine.com, "I was gushing about her. I think she's so
talented and so perfect.
"She's a great conversationalist, very inquisitive. She's got a little bit
of an edge, too, though, so she's not a pushover. She's strong and cool.
She's beautiful, she's smart, and she's emotional, too."
Moore: 'I'm A Natural Beauty'
Demi
Moore has blasted persistent rumors she has undergone cosmetic surgery to
enhance her looks, insisting she is a natural beauty. The 47-year-old
actress has long been subjected to rumors she underwent a body overhaul in
2004, allegedly spending $308,000 (£220,000) on a head-to-toe surgical
makeover.
But the Ghost star, who is married to 31-year-old actor Ashton Kutcher, is
adamant she has never gone under the surgeon's knife for cosmetic reasons.
She reportedly tells France's Marie Claire magazine, "It's completely false.
I've never had it done. But I would never judge those who have. If it's the
best thing for them, then I don't see a problem. I don't like the idea of
having an operation to hold up the ageing process - it's a way to combat
your neurosis. The scalpel won't make you happy."
But Moore refuses to rule out nips and tucks in the future, adding, "That
said, the day when I start crying when I look at myself in the mirror might
be the day when I'm less adamant about not having it done. But for the
moment I prefer to be a beautiful woman of my age than try desperately to
look 30."
Blunt & Krasinski Engaged
Actress
Kirsten Dunst is drinking again after a year-and-a-half-long battle to stay
sober, according to a U.S. report. The Spider-Man star was thought to be
alcohol-free since a spell in rehab last year - but a sighting of Dunst
drinking in a Los Angeles bar on 18 August have sparked fears for her
health, reports the National Enquirer.
A source tells the tabloid, "She told (a companion) to order her a double
vodka on the rocks... (he) held her by the arm to keep her stable. Even
though she was wasted, she looked like she was trying to hide her drink in
her jacket as she walked toward a couch. But minutes after she sat down,
Kirsten gulped her drink."
A spokesperson for the 27-year-old actress had not responded to requests for
comment as WENN went to press.
Cruz Cringes As She Sees Red
Penelope
Cruz was left shame-faced as she walked down the red carpet in a scarlet
suit - but blamed losing her luggage on a flight to London for the fashion
faux pas. The Spanish beauty jetted in to the British capital from Madrid to
attend a glamorous event at the city's Somerset House with her Broken
Embraces director, Pedro Almodovar.
Instead of donning a full-length gown for the glitzy bash, Cruz was forced
to pull on a red suit she kept in her hand luggage - after the airline she
was travelling with misplaced her bags.
But she wasn't fazed by blending in with the garish red carpet, and seemed
more concerned with the unpredictable English weather.
She told reporters at the event, "I looked up at the sky and said, 'Don't
you rain on me - I'm Penelope Cruz!'"
However, filmmaker Almodovar was sure a conspiracy was at work - he is
convinced an avid fan is behind Cruz's missing possessions.
He tells Britain's Daily Mail newspaper, "'I think it's a plot. I think
someone take it (sic). They bring it with him or her to home (sic). I think
it was stolen for a fetishist."
Parker Police Chiefs Plead Not Guilty
The
two Ohio police officers accused of plotting to break into the home of Sarah
Jessica Parker's surrogate have pleaded not guilty to a string of burglary
charges. The actress and her husband Matthew Broderick, who welcomed twin
girls via a surrogate mum on 23 June, have been swept up in the ongoing
investigation surrounding an alleged tabloid scam to dig up dirt on the
woman who carried their babies.
Martins Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter and Bridgeport Police Chief Chad
Dojack were arrested in Ohio on Wednesday.
Carpenter was charged with two counts of burglary, receiving stolen
property, theft in office, tampering with evidence, and unauthorised use of
property or services. Dojack was booked on two counts of complicity to
burglary and one of complicity to receiving stolen property.
A third man, identified as Bruce Callarik, the son of Bridgeport's mayor
John Callarick, was also arrested in connection with the case - he is facing
one allegation of complicity to receiving stolen property.
The three suspects appeared at an Ohio court on Thursday and pleaded not
guilty to all counts, reports TMZ.com.
If convicted on the burglary charges, the police chiefs face eight years
behind bars.
Kudrow Based Phoebe On Aniston
Former
Friends star Lisa Kudrow based her hippie character Phoebe on her co-star
Jennifer Aniston - because of the actress' interest in "spiritual" subjects.
Kudrow won an Emmy Award for her role in the hit U.S. show - picking up the
prize for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 1998 for her
portrayal of wacky masseuse Phoebe Buffay.
But Kudrow admits she found it difficult to relate to her character's hippie
side - and turned to Aniston for inspiration.
She says, "Pheobe was so spiritual and 'out there' - and I wasn't at all.
Not at all. If anyone was it was Jennifer. She introduced me to certain
books that gave me an insight into that world - which was a more spiritual
realm."
Miller Plans L.A. Move
Actress
Sienna Miller is hoping to quit her native Britain for a new life in Los
Angeles - but can't afford to move until she sells her London home. The
Alfie star currently owns two properties in the U.K. - one in the capital
and one in the countryside - but she is hoping to offload her London
residence and buy an house in L.A. so she can spend more time in the U.S.
But Miller's plans have been hampered by the flailing British property
market and has so far failed to find a buyer for her multi-million dollar
London home.
She says, "I still love London, but I really love it in Los Angeles. I'd
love to move (to L.A.) at some point. I just can't afford it right now.
Maybe if I get to do G.I. Joe 3, I'll be able to afford a place, because
doing plays on Broadway doesn't really enable house-buying. Until I sell my
place in London I can't afford anywhere else. It would be useful to have a
place in L.A. because I'm here so much."
Johansson Frustrated Redford In Whisperer
Robert
Redford struggled to work with Scarlett Johansson on the set of The Horse
Whisperer - because she frustrated him so much. The actress was 13 when
director Redford cast her to star in the 1998 film, and although he
acknowledges her acting talent he found it difficult working with her. In
upcoming book Robert Redford: The Biography, a crew member from the movie
claims the Lost In Translation star would constantly interpret her scenes
against Redford's own vision.
The book also alleges Johansson's mum influenced the young actress, causing
her to constantly talk back to the director - leading to "friction" between
the pair on set.
